Weekend Outlook: Cold Front Approaching

So the weather forecast for this weekend looks promising. There’s a cold front to our west that’s expected to push into NJ on Saturday and towards the coast through the night. Cooler drier air from the NW will build in behind the front due to high pressure, possibly bringing birds with it. There will likely be precipitation associated with the front, so depending on the density of birds moving behind the front, the combination could mean good birding. The key will be the location of the frontal boundary on Sunday morning; for Cape May hope it’s just offshore with lots of rain. If good numbers of birds are moving behind the front (which I would expect since migration over NJ has been shut down for a few days), anywhere along the frontal boundary at sunrise should be good.

**Disclaimer: David is not a meteorologist, nor does he know a whole lot about what he talks about…but this IS his website, and you’re welcome (read: “encouraged”) to test his theories in the field. He would also REALLY appreciate it if you’d register on his website and post your migration observations as comments to his daily radar posts. Now he will remove himself from the third person.

Cheers

David
