Migration last night

Light migration seen early in the evening but little in the way of arrivals. This interpretation is based on the signal growing quickly soon after sunset and tapering off around 2am. Velocity plots show the signal looks good for bird migration since it was traveling crosswind (south, when the prevailing wind was east) and at a higher velocity (>10 kts) that the recorded wind speed.

One response to “Migration last night”

  1. Birded an area on the Delaware River in Burlington County in the late afternoon – Taylor’s Wildlife Refuge in Cinnaminson. Had a little variety and small numbers, but remember it was the afternoon. I had 1 GREAT CRESTED, 1 ACADIAN, 1 LEAST, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 1 PHOEBE, and 1 PEWEE. Also 8 GREEN HERONS. For warblers – 12 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 1 CHESTNUT-SIDED, 1 MAGNOLIA, 1 BLACK-THROATED GREEN, 1 BLACK and WHITE WARBLER, and 3 REDSTARTS. Some of this stuff could be lingering from Sunday morning’s big flight.
