As usually follows the passage of a front in Fall, day two is usually less productive than day 1. Birds are seen leaving the New Jersey area, but the signal decreases drastically after midnight indicating less birds arriving than leaving. Here’s the radar:
What does this mean for birding? It could mean that all sites would have less bird density, or that many birds are sticking around locally in search for prime foraging locations. Winds are predicted to stay light and variable for the next few days, so migration conditions will remain fair. Expect to see the trickle of birds through our area until some weather system puts it on hold (this will likely be the remains of hurricane Ivan by the end of the week).
