Weather conditions continue to favor southbound migrants, as can be seen by the steady movement of birds over our area last night.
Density is noticeably less than the past two nights. This is probably due to a combination of things. Many birds have left our area, as can be seen in the radar to our south (along the SE coast). Also, birds that have recently arrived from points north are likely settling into some prime foraging habitat in order to fatten up before the next push. Conditions should remain pretty constant over the next few days until a cold front passes on Thursday, and a stronger cold front passes over the weekend. Both fronts seem to be moisture deprived so far, but there is some possibility that the weekend front could pick up some precip over the great lakes. We’ll have to see. Either way, two fronts on the horizon is a good sign.
