With another night of NW winds, we see another movement of birds over the Northeast. As is to be expected, last night’s migration was a little lighter than the night before (although still intense!), which I believe is due primarily to the ‘source’ of ‘ready’ migrants to our north having been depleted (a good number of birds ready to migrate left three nights ago, many more left two nights ago, and now the rest left last night, etc.). The same weather pattern is predicted to hold through tonight. Therefore, tonight I’d expect another movement of migrants with optimal birding locations along the eastern shore tomorrow morning. Sunday’s forecast has winds out of the North, increasing the probability of birds along the interior ridge lines, whereas on Monday night the wind is predicted to switch out of the NE, at which point the interior ridge lines and the Bayshore will probably see the higher morning numbers.
I have reduced the radar loops to 1 hour intervals, from 7:30pm last night through 6:30am this morning. In doing so I have reduced the file size, but at the cost of some temporal resolution. If you have an opinion either way, let me know. Otherwise I’ll probably stick to the new format.
Get out and bird!

I liked the more frequent intervals, but understand the need to save some disk space.
