Go West Young Man

Well, winds are out of the Southeast as a cold front makes its way toward us from the west. This means no migration for us tonight, but you should check out the central flyway, once again experiencing some impressive migration. Here’s a still image from 10:30pm, where I’ve taken the digital crayon and scribbled in some of the key features. Click on the thumbnail for the larger view with my marks. I’ve circled the central flyway where the major movement is taking place, and pointed out the low pressure system and the cold front that it is associated with. The winds behind the front are coming from the N/NW, whereas those along the leading edge of the front are from the S/SE (you can imagine them blowing counter-clockwise around the area of low pressure). Once the front passes over us, our winds will again become favorable for migration. It looks like tomorrow night will be it, so get ready to go birding!
