Exodus over New Jersey

Bye Bye Birdie.
Another big migration over the Garden State, with little input from the north. Expect lower overall densities of birds this morning, but with relatively high diversity due to the recent influx of sparrows. Winds are expected out of the Southwest today, so raptor migration will likely come to a halt. But don’t fret, as they’ll switch to the West by tonight and Northwest by Thursday morning, setting up for good flights both Thursday and Friday before the weekend rains begin.

Good Birding! 🙂

  1. I had a black throated green in my back yard, Middlesex County, first time for me. Just one, though.

  2. Report from Higbees Beach. Large raptors and accipiters, including several juv. bald eagles soaring on thermals. Also observed tons of yellow rumped warblers feeding. Wasn’t even birding….just doing southern gray tree frog surveys for NJ Fish & Wildlife. Couldn’t resist using the binocs!

    Happy birding all!!!
