I just received my order from Adorama camera in NYC, with the necessary supplies to develop my own medium format black and white film. I have mixed up a batch of developer, diluted the fixer, and made a gallon of rinse, all of which are being stored in the bathroom closet. I have rolled my first roll of film in my new darkbag and placed it into the light-proof developing canister (I haven’t done this since photography class at Palmetto High School, way WAY back in the day). I’m gonna call it a day, and do the actual developing in the morning…but will I be able to sleep???

I did it! Two rolls later and I’ve got some pretty good looking negatives. They’re HUGE compared to 35mm! I’m so stoked 🙂
Unfortunately most of the people-photos I took were at really low shutter speeds (poor indoor lighting, no flash), so I think they’re all blurry, but I went out this morning with my tripod and took some shots in the forest that seem to have come out very nice (as far as I can tell without blowing them up!). I’ll take the negs to the computer lab at school on Monday, scan them, and upload them to my flickr site. Of course, I’ll post one here as well. As for the chemicals, Roger, I guess that’s one of the perks of losing my sense of smell! Inga did say something about it smelling like a photo lab in the bathroom…
…more to come…

Here’s a sample! More hereÂ
One response to “Medium format here I come!”
I can almost smell the chemicals, even though I haven’t been in a darkroom for nearly 30 years!
Good luck with your project.
