Migration forecast

The whole east coast is under a massive nocturnal migration event, from Key West, FL to Southern NY State.

Here’s a link to the national radar composite for 1:15am.

With clear skies tonight there will be no weather to bring birds down in any particular place, so the tried-and-true migration hotspots will be the best bet for the morning. The forecast for tomorrow night calls for similar winds (out of the south) but with the added possibility of precipitation, which could cause more localized fallout conditions depending where and when the rain decides to fall. I’ll post the radar sometime tomorrow in between sparrow surveys and napping (read: “later in the afternoon”).

One response to “Migration forecast”

  1. There were some migrants in South Florida (Palm Beach County) over the weekend. Larger numbers of Prairies and Palms than the populations that had been overwintering.

A random Black-and-White, Northern Parula, and one American Redstart were reported from various sites on Saturday and Sunday, April 8/9.

Any flights from Cuba or other islands certainly didn’t stop for long on the SE coast…
