Migration over the Garden State

Moderate migration was evident over our fair state for the second night in a row. This time with light northerly winds the birds appear to be taking a more NE –> SW trajectory. This is likely due to the absence of the westerly wind component that accompanied migration on the night of the 21st. Data is from sunset last night through 5am this morning. Now off to do point counts (early mornings apparently make me write incomplete sentences). Good Birding.

  1. There were more PRAIRIE WARBLERS and AMERICAN REDSTARTS on my point counts this morning, although the real fun came afterward. Most notably was an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and CAPE MAY WARBLER.

    Other migrants included:

    3 Canada Warblers
    1 Magnolia Warbler
    many Black-and-white Warblers
    many Am. Redstarts
    1 Hooded Warbler
    2 Blue-winged Warblers
    2 Blue Grosbeaks
    1 Warbling Vireo
    1 Red-eyed Vireo
    1 Eastern Kingbird
