The biggest night of migration so far this spring is currently underway in the Northeast. The kicker is that south of New Jersey there’s a whole lot of unstable atmosphere with some heavy thunderstorms. This will likely result in great birding down in Cape May tomorrow, but given the density of birds leaving points north of us, I think all migrant hotspots will be good tomorrow.
I’ll post the radar at about 5am…but you can watch it realtime on the ncar site: http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/radar/
You can also check the wind profile here: http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/upper/okx.gif
Surface winds are at the bottom, while birds tend to migrate around 800mbs- which are currently blowing due north.
