Another big movement underway tonight. Birds are moving from the SW to NE, setting us up for a nice influx of birds overnight. We haven’t had great densities yet, as the last few evenings have been very conducive to migration without weather to put birds down in any particular place. The should remain the case tomorrow morning, although with the amount of birds coming in since the 19th, densities should be building up. As for warblers on this next movement, Ovenbirds, Black-and-whites, and Common Yellowthroats and Prairies should be on the way as they’re in good numbers to the south already. Blue-winged should be here in the next week as well. It definitely seems like people are seeing more singletons this year instead of waves of the same species coming in across many sites (Am. Redstart, Prairie, and Parula, to name a few)…that’s interesting, but I don’t know if there’s much to it since I’ve only noticed it as “strange” this year…maybe I’ll go mine the archives and see. Anyway, birds are up and moving, so unless you’ve got something better to do, go birding tomorrow. With the westerly component to the wind, Sandy Hook should be good, and Garret is always a good bet at this time of year. Belleplain sounds like it’s “bumpin” as of this morning, so if you’re in the south, why not give it a try?!
I’ll post the radar in the morning.
