For whatever reason, the radar went down last night and all of my downloads were either the same image, or said something like “RADAR IS UNDER MAINTENANCE”. Oh well, at least they’re maintaining it.
Migration was high to our south last night, with a good push into south Jersey up to the frontal line that extended from the SW to the NE across the state. Birds that made it into our state will be concentrated along that line this morning, although most of the influx will be restricted to the south including the Bayshore and Cape May. There was little-to-no migration evident on the Fort Dix radar, suggesting that conditions further north had already deteriorated before sunset. As for the forecast, it looks like south winds tonight and west winds through the weekend, which could set us up for a big push of birds depending on how the precipitation plays out. I’m leaving this morning for 2 weeks of field work in Florida, but I should be able to keep the radar feed going with the exception of Sunday and Monday mornings, when I’ll be in the Dry Tortugas. I can’t help but think that you’re going to see the peak of migration while I’m gone…and I’ll have to watch it on the radar from Florida (I can’t complain too much…).
Please keep your field reports and radar interpretations coming.
Good Birding!
