There was a bit of migration last night on the eve of the approaching cold front. Here’s the radar from sunset last night through sunrise this morning. You can see that a small amount of birds were moving just after sunset, and were later joined by a larger group as the front passed and the winds turned around to the north.
Frames are every 1/2 hour for reflectivity and velocity, and every hour for the regional composite. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.
You can really see the cold front on the Northeast composite image, and the more intense migration which occurred to the north of the boundary. I expect a larger movement of birds into our area tonight and tomorrow night as north/northeast winds are forecast. In the meantime, go birding!
