Yup, southerly winds kept birds down again last night. I’m not posting the radar today; too much work for too little information. I’ll paint you the picture though: Very small amount of activity on both the Dover and Ft. Dix base reflectivity, not appearing to grow in concentric circles as migrating birds do; the velocity image shows overall movement from SW to NE, which is inconsistent with migrating birds, but which is entirely consistent with the movement of the winds last night (and hence, anything wind borne that could be picked up by the radar (ie dust, etc.).
This is the fourth night in a row that birds have not migrated, which means large numbers of birds that made it into the state on Sunday night/ Monday morning are still here and making smaller movements into optimal habitat. This pattern will hold again tonight, and will finally break on Friday night with the passage of a cold front during the day on Friday.
