Light migration over Jerze

Winds were out of the WNW over New Jersey last night, although the conditions were unfavorable for migration further north and west. This resulted in low-level migration from NW–>SE over New Jersey, with little influx from the surrounding states. Here’s the radar from sunset last night through 5:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour for reflectivity and velocity, and every hour for the regional composite. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

There does appear to be a push of birds into the state early this morning, albeit small. Since winds were out of the WNW, I would expect more birds to be piling up at coastal locations today. Winds will turn northwesterly across the Northeast tonight, possibly triggering heavier migration into the area for tomorrow. We’ll have to wait and see!

Good Birding
