Nothing but atmospheric stew on the radar last night

Only 2 more days to take the woodcreeper/badbirdz-reloaded, online survey! To the 50 of you who took the survey so far, thanks! To those of you considering taking it, let me assure you that It’s quick, painless, and will really help me improve the site, so please take a few seconds to click a couple of buttons. 🙂
Thanks in advance -David

Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

Not much going on at all as far as I can tell. The radar shows some signal after sunset, but the velocity indicates that all movement is from S->N, and at speeds consistent with the prevailing winds. This is probably a combination of anomalous propagation (the false signal caused by temperature inversion after sunset) with insects, pollen, dust, and all the other stuff in the air at this time of year.

The birding conditions across the state should remain consistent with the last few days. Expect this to hold through Monday, after which we should see the next arrival of new birds… stay tuned!

Good Birding

David

P.S. Come check out my migration forecast for the Mid-Atlantic on Birdcapemay.org
