No migration over New Jersey last night…

…nor the entire northeast, for that matter, as winds have turned southerly in advance of the approaching cold front. That wasn’t the case for the southeast, though, as the radar does show some impressive migration over that region. Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

The composite image really shows well the demarcation between southerly and northerly winds across the east coast. Heavy migration can be seen from Virginia southward to north Florida, while the northern mid-Atlantic and northeastern US were very quiet last night. The local velocity images also confirm that any signal present was moving from south to north, at similar speed and direction of the prevailing winds. These same conditions which produced widespread migration to our south will be heading east and north today. I’ll be posting a full migration forecast on Birdcapemay.org later this afternoon so make sure to stop by to find out how this will affect our region.

Good Birding

David

P.S. Come check out my migration forecast for the Mid-Atlantic on Birdcapemay.org
