No migration as heavy rain moves into region

Birds never got the chance to move south last night, as heavy wind and rain made its way north into the mid-Atlantic before sunset. Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

Strong easterly winds over the northeastern US pushed west what little birds did migrate, while heavy rain and strong winds over the mid-Atlantic caused all local birds to stay put. The result was little to no migration over the region. The conditions outside are terrible for birding anyway… looks like the bosses can count on you at work today!

Good Birding

  1. Not a question about migration last night but was just wondering about current (3:50 pm EST) Nexrad radar returns in Alabama and Miss. All out from SW side of current subtropical low.

If this was night time, I would swear these were migrating bird echos but its currently late afternoon. Any idea what would cause these returns? Looks to weird to be rain.

    Thanks for any insight.
