Heavy migration over Jerze

Northeast winds and clear skies set the state for another big night of migration. Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

With no weather to concentrate migrants, expect inland migrant traps to be best this morning.

Good Birding

  1. Palmyra Nature Cove in Burlington County was the best I’ve seen in a long while. This is an area situated in built-up suburbia and along the Delaware River which itself acts as a migrant corridor. Here are some highlights:
PHOEBES, RUBY and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS with RUBY predominating. Mainly YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS which is normal for this time of year. Both “Eastern” and “Western” PALM WARBLERS, 2 NASHVILLES, BLACKPOLLS, and assorted other late birds. I think the grand total from everyone there was 14 species of warbler. Many sparrows around also.

  2. Sandy Hook was full of the more common migrants, both kinglets, yellow-rumps, palm warblers, brown creeper, hermit thrushes, etc. White throated sparrows, white-crowned sparrows, Lincoln’s, many savannas etc.

Truly a remarkable sight early morning to see trees on the Guardian Park lawn dripping with these migrants!

  3. Lots of migratnts today in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx as well. Tons of Yellow Rumps, several Bt Blues, a Gt Green, Many Eastern Palm Warblers, a couple Blackpolls and Magnolias. White-throated and Song Sparrows were everythere and I also had several White-crowneds, 3 Field Sparrows, 2 Lincoln’s Sparrows, tons of Chipping Sparrows, many Swamp Sparrows, several Brown Creepers, lots of both Kinglets, several YB Sapsuckers, Marsh Wren, House Wren, Red Eyed and Blue Headed Vireos. Raptors included a Merlin, Am Kestrel, N Harrier, A couple Cooper’s and an Osprey

  4. Thanks everyone for your great comments… it really makes me happy to get your feedback, as it makes the website work as it was intended.

    Cheers
