Light southwest-bound migration

The wind last night was out of the east, and migration was light to moderate across the region. Here’s the radar from 6:00pm last night through 6:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

You can read yesterday’s post for an idea of how things played out last night and into this morning. In summary, there was little moving into the mid-Atlantic last night, but the exodus from northern NJ into southern NJ was apparent. Expect inland locations to hold more birds this AM due to the strong easterly winds.

Good Birding

  1. I hit the National Park dredge spoils again this morning. The birds had moved on with nothing new in. It’s what I expected. Here are some numbers to compare with Monday – just from the woods area as I didn’t bother with the dikes.

    1 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER
    1 PARULA
1 BLACK-THROATED BLUE – this was different from Monday, but I am actually assuming I missed on Monday.
    30 or so AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES
    1 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE
1 WILLOW FLYCATCHER – it called.
    4 WARBLING VIREOS
    1 RED-EYED VIREO

  2. I have a question for you (that I could probably found out about if I better knew what terms to look up): what is your source for the general USA migration radar? I’m in north Texas and would love to keep track of my area, but I simply can’t figure out what your source is!
    Thanks!
