Big low pressure system shuts down migration over NJ and NYC

A big coastal low pressure system moved into the region last night, shutting down migration, which was already underway. Here’s the radar from 6:00pm last night through 6:00am this morning.

Between sunset and midnight last night, the local radars indicated little migration over NYC and southern NJ, but moderate levels over north and central NJ. Most migration was heading in a ENE->WSW trajectory, and combined with the rain bands moving in from the SE, was wedged into the area along the Delaware River from Pennsville, NJ up towards Trenton. A good number of birds appeared to continue across the river into PA, and most likely put down in the wooded areas south of Newtown and north of Wyncote. While densities were not high, this event most likely led to high concentrations of birds in the region previously mentioned.

Good Birding
