Some more birds leave the Northeast
Light and variable winds at all altitudes over much of the Northeast resulted in a light to moderate movement of birds into the mid-Atlantic last night. Here’s the radar from 7:30pm last night through 5:00am this morning. Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation. Last night the conditions […]

Finally out of the storm’s path, coastal migrants head south
With Irene gone for good (or at least reduced to a tamed low pressure system over eastern Canada), many migrants along the northeast coast took to the skies last night. Here’s the radar from 7:30pm last night through 5:00am this morning. Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation. […]

Note that the Fort Dix radar is down for maintenance and so is missing from both the single and composite images. Frames are every 1/2 hour. […]

Migration on Central and Mississippi flyways as Irene moves up the coast
Nocturnal migration was definitely in effect last night, but not for the coastal mid-Atlantic. Building southeasterly winds from the approaching hurricane appear to have kept birds from moving over New Jersey and coastal points south. Here’s the radar from 7:30pm last night through 5:00am this morning. Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail […]
