Heavy migration up the Central U.S.
Light trans-Gulf migration along the Texas coast was followed by heavy nocturnal migration up the central U.S. last night as the latest low pressure system swept across the Upper Midwest. Light to moderate migration was present from the Central Great Lakes down through eastern Louisiana last night, but will be higher tonight as migration conditions continue to improve to the east today. Light migration was also evident throughout the Desert Southwest and coastal California through the Pacific Northwest.

Woodcreeper On The Road: POINT PELEE MIGRATION
Although I’m no longer “on the road”, I will continue to post the radar for the western Lake Erie region through Wednesday since heavy migration is expected. I encourage anyone birding in the area to please provide feedback in the comments section of this post so we can all better understand the relationship between nocturnal migration and the subsequent birding conditions on the ground.

Point Pelee, Ontario. Migration Forecast 5/13-15
I had way too much fun at Point Pelee to just walk away and not follow through with the coming migration, despite my return to Madison, Wisconsin. So, here’s the forecast as I see it:

Heavy migration restricted to the Central U.S.
Migration was heavy up the middle of the US last night, from Texas to North Dakota. Additionally birds continued to move up through the Florida Peninsula and up the Pacific Coast, while high pressure across most of the eastern U.S. muted migration overnight.

Woodcreeper On The Road: POINT PELEE DAY 3
Today’s my last day at Point Pelee National Park and it’s the coldest morning so far (just about freezing!). I’ll head into the park for one more morning at ‘the tip’ but with the cold temps and light northerly winds last night, I have little expectation for new arrivals. There are still plenty of birds around the park which I have not yet seen, so I’ll be out trying to round some up before heading back across the border this afternoon.
